The course syllabus has been especially designed by the RYA to cover
the handling of medical emergencies on board, whether due to illness or
accident. The course provides practical training in basic first aid and
symptom diagnosis, including:
cardio-pulmonary-resuscitation (CPR)
blood loss
shock
unconsciousness
recovery of the casualty by air-sea rescue helicopter
When cruising offshore an extended interval can occur before professional
medical assistance is available, and so the MMYC implementation of this course
also explores the improvisation of materials and techniques to protect and
comfort the casualty as necessary.
Recognised First Aid training such as provided by this course is a
pre-requisite to the RYA Yachtmaster qualification.
